Gastronomy :
Hazelnut oil is one of the most treasured oils for gourmets and chefs, who do not cease to find ever new innovational blends, and culinary uses for it.
Its smooth flavor is lightly perfumed, and will compliment any salad. It is used pure or diluted, like butter, on all beans and pulses, pasta, pastries, blend it with a sweet vinegar or lemon juice, and sprinkle generously over vegetable or fish dishes. |
Botany :
The hazelnut (Corylus avellena), belongs to the Betulaceae family. It is a deciduous shrub, or small tree, with stems measuring between 1 and 5 meters. It is of European origin, and we encounter it in woods, hedges, field edges, to the highest mountains, especially in Europe, Turkey, North Asia, and the USA.
The hazelnut is composed of a hard and smooth brownish outer shell, holding within it an edible nut. Of all oleaginous fruits, the hazelnut is the most easily digestible. It is very rich in oil (between 50 and 65 %).
After pressing, it gives a light colored and perfumed oil, with a delicate flavor. |

Nutritional Value :
Hazelnut oil is rich in calcium, vitamin E, and unsaturated fatty acids. It is nutritional, energizing, remineralizing, and a vermifuge. It is perhaps the most healthy dried nut. It is not recommended for people with hypertension, but is very appropriate for convalescents. |
Cosmetic Interest :
Used in massage , hazelnut oil softens the skin and is lightly astringent. It is known for its action against stretch marks and scarring, as it acts on the elasticity of the skin. Hazelnut oil is rapidly absorbed by the skin without leaving an oily feeling, which makes it an excellent skin care product.
